A diverse alliance of women is captured in the Miu Miu Croisière 2013 campaign, photographed by Steven Meisel. Posed amongst ornate fabric screens in coral, moss and emerald green, they lock us into their seductive stares, in an ironic theatre of elegance and desire.

In single and double page portraits poetic shadows dance across dream-like muted colours. With an irreverent wink towards the highly studied glamour of 1950s portraiture, a series of tableaux are arranged around a contradictory set of both grandeur and simplicity.

Hilary Rhoda, Caroline Trentini, Jessica Stam, Karen Elson, Sung Hee, Daphne Groeneveld and Candice Swanepoel, lend each scene a distinctive contemporary edge, presenting silk kimono tops, fitted knits and calf-length dresses slit to the thigh.

Eccentric Miu Miu styling and dramatic contemporary accessories – giant satin bow headbands and bold chain necklaces – offset the subtle beauty and understated opulence of the clothes. It is at the heart of this surreal and elegant fashion coterie that the spirit of the Miu Miu personal resides.
