Compression
Once again the design of the Miu Miu FW 2013 show offers the opportunity to investigate the monumental architecture of August Perret’s Palais d’Iena. The catwalk is designed as a deep compressed space, extending across the salle hypostyle of the Conseil Economique, Social et Environnemental; the audience is organized conventionally along the linear catwalk.
The installation isolates the middle section of the salle: an intermediate layer between the suspended ceiling and the raised floor. Portions of existing columns, trapped in the newly created space, reveal sculptural qualities imperceptible from the ground.
Materials are industrial: floor and ceiling are clad with a black metal grate, covering a dense sequence of fluorescent tubes above and below. The intense light dematerializes the metal surfaces, producing the illusion that the fashion event and its audience are floating in space.
